Gem, Siaya: Kenyans and the family of Nick Mudimba are struggling to come to terms with the painful demise of the young man.

His mother, Mary Atieno Mudimba, tried to keep calm as she talked about her son, eulogising him with sweet words.

Arrayed in a white dress, Atieno stood confidently in front of the mourners as she talked about Nick at his burial in Siaya county.

"It is too sad for family members who are close to him. Nick loved his job. He was disciplined, hardworking and committed to his work in CGTN Africa. Whenever he was at home and received a call to be on duty, he would tell me, 'Mama, I'm going back to Nairobi. I'm being called for a duty'. He was somebody who had his work at his heart. His work, his profession, was at his heart. So that one I know the CGTN Africa is going to miss," she said.
The grieving mum added Nick planned to install electricity in his aunt's house in Kisumu county, but that remained a wish after his death.
What lessons did Nick's mum learn from him?
Nick, who left behind an expectant wife, also planned to build a cottage house and had bought the materials, but they were lying around without purpose following the journalist's death.
"For me, Nick was a friend. One of my sons has said, that Nick was a sponsor. He was more of a sponsor to me than the brothers. I don't know what to say. Oh, I don't know which language to express myself in but I loved my son dearly. The sisters and brothers loved him dearly. He was somehow a decision-maker in the family. Nick could come in and say, 'No, we should not do one, two, three and we would agree amongst us to do what Nick has suggested. Isn't it great that we have lost an icon?
Nick taught me to love even my enemies. Nick also taught me selfless. I'm the one who gave birth to him, but he came to be my adviser at times, and his bits of advice were very beautiful. And if he advises you, whatever he says always comes to pass. My dear brothers and sisters have lost. I have lost. I have lost. God knows why," she added.

Jalang'o eulogises Nick Mudimba
In another story, Lang'ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang'o, penned an emotional tribute to the journalist.
He shared a touching tribute during Nick's requiem mass at the Holy Family Basilica church.
