In Mombasa, the family of Yusuf Ali Abdi, a well-known businessman at Marikiti Market, is in distress after his sudden disappearance on Wednesday April 2.
According to his relative, Jamila Duba, Abdi left home early that morning to attend prayers at a nearby mosque but never arrived. Despite the family’s extensive search, including visits to hospitals and police stations, no one has been able to trace his whereabouts.
His phone was found at home, and efforts to trace his location have led to no results. His friend, Shariff Abdallah, emphasised that Yusuf was a respected businessman in the community.

"He did not get to the mosque. Up to date we don't know where he is. We have searched in hospitals and mortuaries. We have made reports to all police stations around. Yusuf is nowhere to be seen," Jamila explained.
The disappearance has sparked protests in the heart of Mombasa's central business district, with traders and residents taking to the streets to chant and demand justice and accountability from the authorities.
2 young men reportedly abducted in Nairobi
Meanwhile, in Nairobi, two other families are also grappling with the unknown. In South C, 29-year-old Idd Rashid Mubarak, who worked at a local shop, has been missing since Thursday, April 3.
According to his cousin, Zein Salmin, Mubarak closed his shop that evening and never returned home. His phone has been off and there has been no communication. Despite reporting the case to the Akila Police Station, the family says little has been done to locate him.
In a separate troubling incident, 23-year-old Peter Gachanja from Umoja Estate was reportedly abducted by armed men on Thursday, March 27. Gachanja was walking with a cousin and a friend when they were approached by three men armed with AK-47 rifles.
According to his friend, Peter Kiragu, the men ordered them to raise their hands. While Kiragu escaped, Gachanja was taken, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
More than a week has passed since Gachanja’s disappearance, with the family suspecting that the men may have been police officers.
Authorities are yet to confirm any arrests or release a statement regarding the disappearances.
Ruto promises to end abductions
In a related story, President William Ruto addressed the issue of abductions, particularly targeting young Kenyans who have been critical of the government. Speaking in Homa Bay on December 27, 2024, Ruto vowed to put an end to these acts of violence.

The president attributed the abductions to a lack of discipline among the youth, urging them to avoid irresponsible behaviours that could lead to trouble.
Ruto also called on parents to play an active role in protecting their children and guiding them towards becoming responsible citizens.
