Kiambu: A scare unfolded on Friday, April 4, when a matatu carrying 14 students from Mugoiri Girls was involved in an accident in Witeithie.

    Videos and images seen by TUKO.co.ke showed the vehicle tipped on its side, with students and local residents gathered around the scene.

    What did Mugoiri Girls' administration say about accident?

    In a statement from Mugoiri Girls High School alumnae chairperson Victoria Kamau, the school principal, Susan Mundia, said the matatu operated by Muna Sacco was carrying Form Four students for the April holidays when it was allegedly forced into a drainage ditch by a bus.

    "A vehicle belonging to Muna Sacco, which was transporting our Form Four girls for the April holiday, was pushed into a drainage trench by a bus from Chania Sacco near Witeithie," Victoria's statement read in part.

    She also confirmed that all 14 students involved in the accident are in good condition, with no injuries or fatalities reported.

    Victoria added that since the students were unharmed, they were transferred to another vehicle and allowed to continue their journey home.

    "There were no injuries or casualties; all 14 girls are safe. They resumed their journey home in another vehicle. Let’s take a moment to thank God for protecting our girls. Glory to God," she said.

    4 Mbita Boys student hit by speeding vehicle

    In a related story, the Mbita Boys High School community was left devastated after four students were struck by a speeding vehicle.

    The students were on their way home for the April holiday when the tragedy occurred.

    They were reportedly negotiating the boda fare with a rider beside the road when the tragic accident occurred.

    Onlookers said the vehicle responsible for the accident was traveling at high speed. They also suspected that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

    According to a statement from Mbita Boys High School, the injured students were rushed to Prince Richard Hospital and Mbita Level 4 Hospital.

    The administration added that two students who sustained serious injuries were referred to Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital for advanced medical care.

    The accident occurred shortly after three pupils from Ober Boys Primary School were killed in a crash in Nyakach Subcounty.

    The fatal accident on Wednesday morning, April 2, occurred at Kibwon along the Sondu-Katito Road.

    It involved a Public Service matatu ferrying pupils home for the April holidays and a lorry transporting sugarcane.

    According to the police report, four people, including three pupils, died at the scene, while nine others sustained various injuries.
